Maximus edition by Christine Elaine Black Romance eBooks

This book really grabbed me right from the Prologue, when the heroine is placed in a dangerous and impossible situation through no fault of her own. An act of revenge on the part of a stranger virtually ruins her life, the lives of her family and, later, her son. I was eager to read on and find out how these early events impacted the rest of the book, and the exciting storyline just kept me reading.

All the characters are fully developed and three-dimensional, which is another thing I liked about the book. The actions and reactions of the heroine, Carissa, are believable throughout. When the hero, Maximus, appears he brings charm and irresistible masculine energy. I could sympathize with Carissa's attraction to him, even when she is torn by old fears and memories. Maximus himself remains a mysterious figure through most of the story - I won't ruin anybody's fun here by giving too much away, but it's not till the end we find out his true identity.

I think what I liked best about this story was its authenticity. It really felt like I visited ancient Rome. Use of Latin words and Roman terms was sparing enough that I wasn't stumbling over them, and frequent enough to lend a convincing flavor. I never doubted that the historical details were accurate. And there were just enough steamy loves scenes! Of course, a happy ending never hurts. All in all, an enjoyable read!

Maximus edition by Christine Elaine Black Romance eBooks Reviews

This was a quick read, taking the reader back to an era I love to read and write about. The flavour of Ancient Rome is there, although the detail is light. The premise of a lengthy exile for Maximus, banned by the emperor of Rome, is an interesting one. That he must come to terms with his past, and fight to earn the love of Carissa, is balanced by the friendly relationship that develops between Maximus and her son. Does Carissa really hate her new neighbour? She does have some cause, I think!
Maximus by Christine Elaine Black

This book is very sweet, loving and romantic.

Maximus a sexy rugged man who is being punished by the king for not following instructions and defying him at every turn. He's waiting patiently to be forgiven and able to return home. Carissa is in hiding from her past she does not want to revisit, she's a single mother taking care of her son and senile father when she happens upon Macimus. Although they both want to keep their distance they can't stay away from each other. Carissa feels like a women when Maximus is around and she likes the feeling. Maximus is hiding many secrets from Carissa that he hopes someday she can forgive. Just as Carissa's past catches up with her Maximus feelings are shared and he'll stop at nothing to save her. Very romantic and sweet story I truly enjoyed.
Maximus is an excellent read, and an awesome start to this series. I would recommend everyone who likes historical novel to READ this!! Maximus and Carissa have tons of chemistry, humor and caring between them. I absolutely loved them both & didn't want the book to end! The plot is interesting, well written and surprising. I read it in a day. The setting is unique, and the overall dynamics between them as a couple is intriguing. The writing gives you a flavor for the historical setting without ever taking away from the story. The author keeps the relationship moving, and her overall style is refreshing, and interesting, so that you don't want to put the book down once you start it.This is a quality, must read. And I loved it!!! Can NOT wait for more!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Maximus. This is a well-paced, interesting story, and I especially liked the setting of Ancient Rome. Ms. Black weaves history through her romance with a deft hand. The attraction and tension between Carissa and Maximus builds nicely and their seperate stories are believable. Milo is an interesting, eccentric old man, and the son Caius is a delight and never takes away from the blossoming romance. As secrets are revealed and guilt over youthful errors confronted, the two learn the true meaning of love, forgiveness, and family.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Lovely, fiesty Carissa and irresistible Maximus spar off each other in true gladiatorial fashion while little Caius strives to bring them together much to Carissa's annoyance. Secrets and old wounds simmer throughout as the author combines a clever plot of revenge and redemption with a steamy romance. The historical content is not heavy handed allowing an accurate depiction of Roman culture to filter naturally throughout the story. I'll definitely look for more by the same author. In fact I've just found the next one, Taurus, and can't wait to read it.

If you like Roman Romance you'll love this!
